I am so sorry to tell you that our beloved Dale passed away yesterday. He lived for about 14 years, which is a grand old age for a dog his size; we were fortunate to share 12+ of those years with him. Now we're left with a gaping Dale-sized hole in our hearts.
There's so much I want to say about Dale but I can't bring myself to type anything right now. But I do want to thank and hug each of you who sent Dale their love and best wishes through the years. This quirky and sweet dog brought laughter and joy to many people, some that he met and others that he never met and that's the best kind of legacy to leave behind.

ReplyDeleteWhile I'm sorry too that Dale won't be physically around for you to hug, but I believe that dog's never leave us completely, so there's no real 'dog heaven' concept for me. I think dogs stay around for our entire lives, so that we keep hearing their unsaid opinions about all we do - only we can't see their expression while they say them. They quit the mortal world only when we do and accompany us to heaven or hell (as the case may be). I feel that when dogs befriend us, their vow is "till even death does not do us apart".
My dog died 30 years ago, but I still speak to him and of him every single day.
Don't be sorry Nupur, or Dale will be sorry for you too. Think of him with a smile, in reverence for the many many smiles he brought to your face.

So sorry to hear that Dale is not with you any more. We had a Dalmatian at home when I was young and my grandfather was so upset when Dolly passed that he refused to let any one bring a dog home after that. Dale seemed like such a "samanjas" dog from his pictures and from what you wrote about him. I hope you and your family feel a little better with time. ReplyDeleteThose were the best 14 years of our lives...our vet would say dogs usually live 12 years and that dorji was enjoying bonus years.
The vacuum will never be filled up and not a day goes by without thinking abt that lil one who filled our lives with so much love and happiness and was so selfless.

My deepest sympathies Nupur. I have never commented on your blog before but I have enjoyed the food and non-food tales -- Dale played a starring role in the latter. Our first rescue cat died old, fat, temperamental and happy; I don't think I have ever cried more at someone's passing.

ReplyDeleteI am so very, very sorry. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. My wonderful 17-1/2 year old cat died this year, and although he had a great and long life, I was heartbroken. It's just such a hard thing.
