Now reading cookbooks is a tiny bit of an, ahem, obsession for me. On the other hand, I am also trying to be a non-hoarder. I hate too much "stuff" cluttering up my life. It probably comes from having an entire family of chronic packrats that I have become a total un-packrat. This does not stop my family and friends from gifting me cookbooks on a regular basis and I LOVE them for it. Also, I marry my love for cookbooks and my hatred for "stuff" by bringing home copious numbers of books from the local library. The other day, the lady checking out my books at the asked me, "Girl, are you throwing a party or sumtin'?"
Total number of cookbooks I own:
About 25, and many of them are small booklets rather than full-size books. I have bought only 2 of these, all the others are gifts from loved ones!

In addition, I hang on to random cooking magazines that I tend to buy in airport terminals!
Last cookbook I bought: New York Cookbook by Molly O'Neill from Strand Bookstore. This was so much fun to read, its a book with lots of personality though I cannot say I have used it much for actual recipes.
Last food/cook book I read: Its one I borrowed from the library...Lidia's Family Table By Lidia Mattichio Bastianich. She is really an authority on North Italian Family cooking, and I found this book a very valuable read.
Five (cook) books that mean a lot to me:
1. The New Enchanted Broccoli Forest by Molly Katzen. This one has sentimental value, it was a gift from my beloved ex-roommate Steph. We cooked and ate together for 2 years, and Molly was a big part of our lives. I also like "Sunlight Cafe", the breakfast book written by Molly.
2. On Food and Cooking by Harold McGee. A wonderful birthday gift from my best friend M. The girl knows me, what can I say? Its a book marrying my two favorite subjects, food and science. I'll devote an entire entry to this book soon.
3. This one is not a cookbook at all, but a kitchen journal. A wonderful gift from my beloved friend SR, who has always been a big supporter of my culinary adventures :) It allows me to keep a record of menus that have worked well, and of ideas that I want to try out.
4. Books by Tarla Dalal. She is a very well-known author in my part of India (Bombay, Maharashtra and Gujarat). I love her little cooks titled "Chaats" and "Microwave cooking" and so on. She always has clever ideas and tips.
5. The Internet! The biggest cookbook in the world. I Google recipes day and night :)
Which five people would you like to see fill this out in their blogs?
Is there anyone who has not participated in this meme yet? Let me try tagging deccanheffalump of The Cook's Cottage who blogs from the Western Indian city of Pune.

Hi Indira, I guess Tarla is popular is wildly popular only in and around Bombay but you might be able to buy her books online. I have no idea if her books will be available elsewhere.
Thanks Nupur! That a nice surprise. Will love answering those questions.
Another conscientious blogger! Chronicler also has On Food and Cooking, almost the same review. I think I'll like it too.
Thanks for playing Nupur!
